Flying North or South!

That is the name of my latest finish!

I made the label when I took a break from writing school reports!
I had wanted to make a flying geese quilt for a long

time and had various versions pinned on Pinterest.

Just some of the 25 fabrics in the quilt

And I'd been collecting fabrics for quite some time...

One arrangement I considered
The Meadowland quilt, of which I have made two,

 uses the four-at-a-time

method of construction,

so I used it this time and it came together quite

quickly.

Although I did decide to make an extra column as

originally it was 48" by 60" - a little skinny!

Normally I like skinny, just not in my quilts!

Making the extra five blocks took no time at all.

My friend Deb suggested I get my hands on this

quilting book

And I was thrilled that one of the nearby libraries

had it!

So it is quilted in wavy organic lines.

I like the little hints of red scattered across the

greens and blues.

It was another glorious Winter's day,

perfect for some glamour shots!

July

It is hard to believe we are already halfway through

the year....

Flying Geese Quilt

This is what I have made so far!

My Gertie Marlane quilt (top right) is waiting to be hand quilted

Before I start machine quilting the flying geese quilt,

 (I need batting)

I delved into my extensive library and found this

book.

It is full of techniques and simple ideas.

This little zipper pouch is constructed in a different

way to the regular one found on tutorials,

and it worked out well.

I decided to make this pouch (below) to try out the

cork 'fabric' I had bought for another project but

didn't use.

I'm already planning another one or two.

Finally, an infinity scarf made from a piece of linen

lurking in the stash.

Now its time to get back to the quilting!

Happy days!

Returning to some favourites...

Well, favourite colours that is!

It seems I am drawn to this colour palette...

Bricolage - a sampler made to my own

design back in 2012

and "Sanctuary"

made for a friend in 2018

And of course my latest woollen projects

Viridian jumper just finished

Yarn waiting for a pattern

now this....

It is only 30" by 48", at this stage.

so I'll need to go back to block building!

And then to decide if I want to use this layout of go

for something more 'radical'!

Then it would certainly be a "Wild Goose Chase"!

Happy sewing!

Back in Formation.....

my geese, that is.....

It's hard to tell from here, but the points are much

better this time round!

I had some gift vouchers that were due to expire so

I was pleased to find this in my local book shop....

I have an on-again, off-again love affair with Kaffe....

I made this quilt nearly five years ago...

his pattern, my fabrics!

Pam's Chelsea Garden
Sorry about the bad 'flick'r' photo! It's the only one I can find!

It hangs proudly on a friend's wall.

I love this new version I found inside...

especially as I have a thing for pink and yellow

at the moment!

This maybe going on to my to-do list!

Is there a pattern out there that you'd consider

making again?

Keeping it Real...

For the Modern Stitching Bee Di has asked for Flying

Geese blocks....

in aqua, yellow, red with grey.

She gave us free reign to choose our own designs!

The first one went without a hitch...

Not so the second...

I think I had a little brain fade when I was cutting....

As I sewed I knew there were serious flaws in it,

 like missing points....

But I kept going, using it as my 'prototype'!

In the meantime I am relaxing with my

 hand applique....

One down, four to go!

Happy sewing!

Decisions, decisions.....

I have been participating in the Mouthy Stitches

Swap,

ably organised by Cindy, Susan and Hadley.....

the back.....
I stalked my partner's Flick'r photostream and blog....

close ups......

And jumped right in!

This is what I made!

I was feeling pretty chuffed with how it looked....

Until I started seeing amazing paper pieced,

embroidered and quilted creations on Flick'r!

So I went back to the drawing board....

the back....

And made another!

I am seriously thinking of sending both!

But I know that is against the rules!

Embroidery added to a Flying Circle of Geese block....

Why do I do this to myself!

Thank goodness making the key fob made me happy!

Key Fob made!

I know it has to be my decision....

But I'd love your feedback!

Happy days!

In a Pickle!

This "Circle of Geese" did have me in a pickle for a while...

Not sure what I will do with it, but at least I can cross it off my 'to-do' list!

But I got there in the end!

It has been too long since I did any serious Foundation Piecing....

Mariner's Compass #1

I have made a whole Mariner's Compass flimsy with nine of these blocks....

Mariner's Compass #2

It's still not quilted because I really have no idea how to quilt it!

Mariner's Compass #3
Anyway, where was I?

Foundation piecing.... I love the accuracy of it!

And I love the Pickledish Pattern...

(and have long admired Mary @ Molly Flanders' lovely work!)

So yes, I've started another quilt!

(The FW quilt is finished, I'm just waiting for some outside weather shots!)

This one may only end up being a small one...

But I am loving it already!

And to add to my pickle.... I've been tagged!

Yes, you caught me Krista! (@ Krista Stitched)

Here are my answers....

1. Starch or no? Definitely no.

2. Prewashing or not? Mostly not, although with solid reds and black, yes!

3. Solids or prints? Mostly prints, but I am coming around to using solids more!

4. Dogs or Cats? That's an easy one...definitely dogs!

5. Big quilts or little ones? Mostly big!  But as I have so many, I think this will have to change!

6. Thrifting or buying new?  Fabric- new, but I love 'op-shopping' for treasures!

7. Wood floors or carpet?  'Cos we are 'renting' I have no choice!

8. Beer or wine?  Mostly wine except after a long day in the saddle (I'm a cyclist) then it's a big cold beer!

9. Staying in or Going out?  Mostly staying in!

10. One fabric line per quilt or mix/match?  Another easy one...mix and match!

11.  Watching TV or listening to Music? Definitely listening to Music...love the new Bruce Springsteen; hanging out for him to come to Australia.  Although if Kirstie and Phil are on, I'm watching!

I'm not sure if there is anyone left to play tag with...

If you'd like to play, let me know and I'll link to your questions/answers!

And I am too tired from this game of tag and my 50 km ride this morning....

I'm off to listen to Bruce!

Happy days!
