My first quilt finish for 2023

Quilt production has been slow this year.

Besides making clothes

I've been renewing my love for watercolour!

But I do have a quilt to share today.

I kept the quilting simple, straight lines 2" apart

I used one of my trusty Aurifil threads in a pretty

lemon colour.

I love the backing, a length I bought last year from an

Instagram destash.

It's an Art Gallery Fabric by Bari J called "Wild Bloom"

I could easily have this side showing!

I persuaded the quilt-holding husband to accompany

me to the Carisbrook Jail.....

for some photos of "Carisbrook Cabin".

It is bound in a black and white check- bold but I

think it reflects the squares of the log cabin.

The batting was the last of a roll I bought at Spotlight

in 2021 for $60.

I've made 7 quilts from the roll, with about a 40inch

square left!

That's economical, don't you think?

The jail is a pretty grim place without the rainbow

colours of a quilt to brighten it up!

From Stash to Wardrobe!

I've had some success with my garment sewing over

the last couple of weeks, and some failures too!

The cotton lawn kimono-type nightie was too big in the

bust area so that will be moved out...

The pink fabric I hope to make in a dress was narrow so

has gone back into the stash.

The dress shown in this pattern wasn't without its

 issues either.

The armhole facings were different sizes!

I emailed McCall USA but I'm not sure they appreciated

my interference!

Well, they never said thank you anyway!

I decided to put sleeves in rather than wait for an

answer from them.

The dress has plenty of 'ease'.

Do you think that, in fashion terms,

means it's going to be too big?

Anyway, I may wear it about and see how it feels.

The second success was the Lisette 2245 blouse that

 I have made numerous times.

It fits nicely and is very cool on a hot day like today!

I've cut out the Melody tunic in the green check BUT....

I'm thinking it might be time to bite the bullet

and baste a quilt.

I feel like doing some quilting!

Happy sewing!

Other plans

My sister visited recently and I made up this cushion

cover for her.

Then she helped me go through my stash of clothing

fabric and match up some patterns...

The green check was a remnant from a thrift shop,

the donkey brown cord from Supercheap Fabrics.

The mauve double gauze, from Spotlight, will be a top,

the pink/red linen, an online purchase, a dress

possibly for a mid-year wedding?

I love this pattern that Helen bought...

the navy check will be for her;

the blue/pink will be mine.

Unfortunately, there is not enough pink to make

this dress, it's pretty narrow.

I bought these 2 yards at Salvo's for $3.

When I did some research I found it online here

for $36.75 a yard!

Too nice to mess up, don't you think?

Finally another op-shop find, a cotton gauze that will

become a kimono-style nightie.

All recorded here for accountability's sake!

Happy days,

Sugar Gum Blossoms

I finished my blossoms quilt top a couple of

weeks ago...

But boy, has life been busy!

My husband had an operation four weeks ago and I

have become the designated driver during this time.

I love how the quilt top has ended up!

It finishes at about 20 inches.

The back with the interfacing pieces

I'm calling it "Sugar Gum Blossoms".

I've purchased some new Aurifil threads to quilt it...

Who knows when I will get started?

I have lots of WIPS waiting for my attention!

Happy sewing...
