Hot Fudge!

I decided on this traditional layout for my latest 

finish!

I made a little 'cross stitch' type block to fill a gap...

and lots of two-toned, checkerboard pieces too!

I tried out some new homemade spray glue for 

basting....

(the recipe on "String and Story" blog is found here)

and I must say, I'm sold!

I've never found it easier to baste, nor been happier 

with the way the quilt sandwich held together!

Any puckering I blame solely on my wonky piecing!

A downside of the spray is that it needs to be 

washed out promptly;

so the rest of these photos are after the quilt has 

been washed and dried.

Given the Summer weather here, 

and the fudging I did to get some pieces to fit,

the name seemed obvious!

Isn't that garden pretty?

A Bee for the Queen Bee!

Rachel is the Queen of May-

well, Queen Bee of our Gridster Bee for May!

As she is away for much of May, she released her block early!

It is foundation paper pieced 

from the Piece by Number website...

so I made a sample block first!

It will be 6" finished.

But Rachel wanted hers to be 10" with a purple 

background...

I found the perfect fabric in my stash with bees on it!

Here are the two blocks together....

I still need to embroider the antennae on Rachel's 

block!

I am making an extra block for each month of the bee,

 to make my own sampler quilt...

I'm loving this so far,

and am looking forward to seeing the future bee 

block choices!

Show and Tell!

I am back from my little beach getaway...

where we did lots of walking,

and people watching!

This is what I managed to sew, hand stitching in the 

evenings.

My first Delilah block!

With another one cut out ready to stitch.

Amitie is moving soon so I decided I needed to take 

some fabric off their hands...

for Delilah, of course!

and the batting is going to be used soon for my 

"Chucky's In Love" quilt,

Five metres of Lizzie House, "Castle Peeps"

because I found a fabulous fabric for the backing!

This is my first block for the Gridster Bee...

designed by Nancy herself!

With fabric cut and ready for the next...

Plenty to keep me busy!

This little piggy...

went to market...

Well, these two are going to California, 

actually!

They are my latest bee blocks for the

Gridster Bee.

Elizabeth did such a great job writing 

her own tutorial based on some ideas 

here and here!

And of course, I had to have one of my 

own...

to add to the pineapple I made for 

February's round.

My little piggy needs his curly tail yet...

but that will have to wait awhile...

it's time for school camp again!

Gridster Bee!

I have mentioned this bee before but didn't explain 

things in detail.

We are Gridsters because we are working from a 

grid, posted on Google docs.

I was Queen Bee for January and requested a 

NYBeauty block.

I used this block as my inspiration....

asking for a royal blue, pink, red palette,

with a little yellow and black/white prints thrown in 

for good measure!

These are the blocks I have received so far....

I'm still waiting for three blocks to arrive, and have 

more of my own to make, 

before I decide on how I am going to set them.

So in the meantime, I've made the pineapple block 

Sherri requested for February.

This year I am making myself an extra block of each 

month's request.

And will make myself a sampler quilt as a memory of 

my gridster experience.

Work not Play!

I haven't had much play time for the last ten days or so, 

but I have done a little sewing!

Some more "A Wild Ride" blocks...

I did test a new block for Andy at A Bright Corner....

and ran this scarf up from some fat quarters of voile 

I had.....

difficult to photograph!

 I received blocks for the Gridster Bee I am 

participating in...

Aren't they fabulous?

And I've made one of my own...

It's hard to imagine that it's nearly time for me to 

return to work for another year,

but I don't really want to think about that just yet!
