Palette Cleanser

I may call my latest flimsy finish "Palette Cleanser"?

I rarely make a totally solid quilt and this felt like

cleansing the palette of florals and prints!

Or maybe I will call it "On Solid Ground",

for fairly obvious reasons.

I posted this photo (above) to Instagram, back at the

start of June,

thinking I would make a very large quilt with 13 full

blocks set on point,

with a number of half blocks to fill in the gaps.

Sadly, the making of these blocks was becoming a

chore,

so once I finished up the ninth block on Monday,

I decided it was done!

So all that needs to be decided is the backing and the

quilting!

Can you believe I have NO OTHER WIPS to sew!?

I do have my botanical art to keep me busy.....

Maybe you have a favourite pattern that you'd like to

see 'take' on?

I'd love to know!

Happy days!

Snow in September!

Yes, it is supoosed to be Spring but various places in

country Victoria have experienced snowfalls today!

Ballarat, Ballan and Daylesford- taken from Instagram

So it seems appropriate that I work on my

Snowflake Quilt.

I don't think I shared any of my plans here....

I am making this as a commission for a friend.

I've had to modify the pattern somewhat,

as the recipient required the snowflake to have all

eight dentrites.

So I began collecting and buying more blue solids

cutting the gazillion squares

and making and trimming half square triangles!

An new blade sure helped!

To help with the gradient of colour I started at the centre....

and worked my way out getting darker to the edges.

Now all that's left to do is join all the blocks together..

And with more cold and wet weather forecast, and

lockdown continuing,

I guess I will stay home and sew!

Happy days!

PS Blogger doesn't play nice anymore- fonts size, centre alignment, uploading one photo at a time- they all do their own thing! I used to be able to write and publish a blogpost in 30 minutes! Not any more!

Smorgasbord Quilt

Yes, I've decided on a name for my solids quilt!

While the designer is not Scandanavian,  I feel this fits!

All these blocks are 6 1/2 "

I thought it was time to introduce a little bit of white....

it was feeling a little Amish!

I've made another seven blocks this weekend,

after finishing my 28th mask on Friday!

I have another three 6 1/2" blocks and

three 12" blocks to make!

But it's back to online teaching tomorrow,

so these will have to wait!

Looking for a name!

I have had this pattern in my stash for over three

years now!

It was a Block of the Month by Brigitte @Zen Chic

And a state of lockdown means no shopping except

for groceries and medical supplies.

So, I did some stash diving and got cutting!

I chose to cut the twenty rectangles first.

Then the blocks.

They are 6” and 12” blocks so all pretty

straightforward, except the pattern is in German.

But there are good diagrams so nothing I couldn’t

figure out.

Strangely I never found out the official name for it.

I went looking on her new and old blog but could

find no reference to it.

It seems it was released through Instagram, but still

without a name!

TeaRoseHome design

So while I sew masks I'll be contemplating what I

should call it.

My husband has laid claim to this one!

Any ideas???

I recently gifted one of my quilts and received both

a delicious box of chocolates and this photo as a

thank you.

Oscar looks quite at home there, don't you think?

An Even Dozen!

I've finished my 12th quilt for 2019!

I started quilting with a diagonal straightline....

forming a grid, which you can see a little of in the

photos.

The further I went, the surer I became that I was

going to run out of thread!

So then I only sewed part of the way across and

turned back in the other direction to form a triangle (?)

It was only when I was taking these photos that I

noticed how the quilting matched the backing!

(see last photo)

I really like the simplicity of this quilt!

It will go in the gift cupboard until I find a

'special' recipient!

It seems my quilts fall into three categories:

1. Must keeps
2. 'Special' giveaways to special people
3. 'Just because' giveaways!

Do you categorise your quilts that way too?

Hip to be Square....

is the name of my new quilt!

My friend Kirsty was looking for some other versions

of her latest pattern before it is released soon.

It was only when I was making Block #2 that I

spotted a couple of errors in Block #1 (above)

Block # 3 is quite similar to #1 but that's ok....

#4 is similar to #2

Each block measures 17", so at the moment it

is approximately 35" square.

If I can buy some more cream solid fabric, I'll add

 outer borders

Happy sewing!

Flimsy Finishes

I've had two flimsy finishes this week.....

Yes, two tops now ready to be quilted!

The first one is made

from these blocks....

into this...

I'm intending to machine quilt this one myself,

I did iron it!
and give it to a friend who is retiring from teaching

soon.

And Helen's Dresden is together too!

This one is a big one,

measuring 88" by 74",

so it's not only difficult to photograph but beyond

my quilting skills.

So we will get it professionally quilted!

Time to get some backings prepared!

Happy sewing!

Sanctuary...

my first finish for 2018!

Once I had decided how I wanted to quilt this....

and knew I had the skill to achieve it,

                    there was no stopping me,

doing the bulk of the quilting on a 42C day!

I found a Jacquie Gering YouTube video online that

gave me the confidence to go for it!

It's a wavy line created with my walking foot.

I made a 'matched' binding, following Debbie's

tutorial here.

I made a label from a scrap of the backing,

cutting out a window, turning back the edges and

stitching in a plain piece of fabric.

Here's the texture on the back...

a vintage sheet,

a sneaky contrast to the modern front.

It finishes at about 60" square....

and going to live with a dear friend who, I hope, will

find much comfort from it.

Happy sewing!
