Presenting... "Sunnybrook Farm"

Time and the weather have conspired somewhat against me this week.....

But I really wanted to share my 'finish' for March!

(That's three quilts finished in three months!)

So inside photos will have to do...

My FW quilt, AKA "Sunnybrook Farm" is done!

I stippled all around each of the 48 blocks.....

quite Denysely densely, as is my method!

The back folded over to the front
This is the biggest quilt I've ever quilted myself...

57 " by 72 "

The binding is a pretty DS print...

which contrasts nicely with both the sunny back and the spotty front!

The blocks all stand out proudly from the background, which is the effect I was

after!

I think it let's all the blocks 'shine'!

And a view of the pieced back!

Can you tell why I have called it "Sunnybrook Farm"?

Apart from the obvious sunny backing, "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm" was one

of my Mother's favourite films.

And this reminds me of my Mum!

She was a bit of a farm girl when she was young.

I know my Mum would have loved this quilt....

Well, that's not quite true.....

My Mum loved EVERYTHING I made!

Doesn't yours?

Run, Rabbit, Run, Run, Run!

I had an absolute ball making this little fellow with some of my birthday felt!

(Thanks Mary!)

I originally saw the idea here.

So needed to make one for myself....

and give him a cosy little home!

He's only about 6 inches tall!

Do you think the Easter Bunny will be run...run...running to your house!

He looks pretty happy in there, doesn't he?

I hope so!

Happy Days!

Retail Therapy!

There won't be much time for blogging or sewing in PatchworknPlay land

this week....

My real job beckons as the first school terms comes to a screaming halt on

Friday!

So just so you know I haven't disappeared off the face of the earth I have

prepared some posts.....

Today I'll share a couple of things I bought recently....

I got my hands on some Flea Market Fancy...

Isn't it pretty?

I'm not one to buy entire lines of fabric so was restrained in my purchase of two

yards of Bouquet!

And I visited my favourite book store "Can Do" books to pick up my copy of....

Zakka Style!

I'm thinking I might join in the fun of the Sew Along over here!

Zakka Style Sew Along

And just so you know I haven't been slacking off in my spare time...

another of my "Jazz Hands" EPP blocks is coming together!

Roll on school holidays!!

In a Pickle!

This "Circle of Geese" did have me in a pickle for a while...

Not sure what I will do with it, but at least I can cross it off my 'to-do' list!

But I got there in the end!

It has been too long since I did any serious Foundation Piecing....

Mariner's Compass #1

I have made a whole Mariner's Compass flimsy with nine of these blocks....

Mariner's Compass #2

It's still not quilted because I really have no idea how to quilt it!

Mariner's Compass #3
Anyway, where was I?

Foundation piecing.... I love the accuracy of it!

And I love the Pickledish Pattern...

(and have long admired Mary @ Molly Flanders' lovely work!)

So yes, I've started another quilt!

(The FW quilt is finished, I'm just waiting for some outside weather shots!)

This one may only end up being a small one...

But I am loving it already!

And to add to my pickle.... I've been tagged!

Yes, you caught me Krista! (@ Krista Stitched)

Here are my answers....

1. Starch or no? Definitely no.

2. Prewashing or not? Mostly not, although with solid reds and black, yes!

3. Solids or prints? Mostly prints, but I am coming around to using solids more!

4. Dogs or Cats? That's an easy one...definitely dogs!

5. Big quilts or little ones? Mostly big!  But as I have so many, I think this will have to change!

6. Thrifting or buying new?  Fabric- new, but I love 'op-shopping' for treasures!

7. Wood floors or carpet?  'Cos we are 'renting' I have no choice!

8. Beer or wine?  Mostly wine except after a long day in the saddle (I'm a cyclist) then it's a big cold beer!

9. Staying in or Going out?  Mostly staying in!

10. One fabric line per quilt or mix/match?  Another easy one...mix and match!

11.  Watching TV or listening to Music? Definitely listening to Music...love the new Bruce Springsteen; hanging out for him to come to Australia.  Although if Kirstie and Phil are on, I'm watching!

I'm not sure if there is anyone left to play tag with...

If you'd like to play, let me know and I'll link to your questions/answers!

And I am too tired from this game of tag and my 50 km ride this morning....

I'm off to listen to Bruce!

Happy days!

Bitty Pirate Blocks!

I have recently joined a new swap on Flick'r!

It's called the Bitty Block Committee!

There are themes each month which, if they appeal, you sign up for.

The blocks are all three and a half inches, and you make one for each person in

your group!

Pirates was the first theme I opted for...

Little did I know how high the standard would be!

Look at this amazing pair of pirate art!

And this incredible detailed bitty block!

I'm going to make a cute mini for a little pirate friend!

a use for any more...

So, with my FW Quilt almost in the finished pile I'm offering to swap these!

They are all taken!!!

All these are fat quarters of Denyse Schmidt fabrics.

What have you got to offer?

Yes, its a straight swap!

You might want one, two or all three!
All gone! Thanks everyone!

Let me know what you have which you think I might like and we can come up

with an 'arrangement'!

Happy St Patrick's Day!

What are you doing this fine St Patrick's Day?

I have bought some great fabric to back my FW Quilt...

and pieced it using some leftover DS fabrics...

and it's ready for quilting!

I have some fabric leftover....

which I think I might swap????

(More about that on my next post!)

But you really want to know who has won my giveaway, don't you.....

And who is No.41?

Amy...its you!

And this is what she wrote.

I've sent you an email, so let me know your snail mail address and this will be

There will be a Happy Ending!

The Farmer and his wife have finally got their act quilt top together!

Not without a spot of bother....

(The first option used a more sparsely dotted fabric)

Mr and Mrs Schmidt don't always have the same view of life...

Mr Farmer is a bit of a square, a straight up and down type of guy....

Denyse often sees things from a different (on-)point of view!

But I think they have their act top together...

Even if it is upside down!!

But how will they keep sew it together???

By hand or by machine?

Mr Farmer and Denyse may need to go to counselling to solve that one!

Of course, they would be happy to take advice from neighbours and friends!

They also apologise for the rather poor photos....

They live in a little house and they found it very difficult getting all the top in

these shots!

And MrPnP didn't want to play!

Happy days!

Labour Day!

It is Labour Day Weekend here in Melbourne where I live!

Monday is a holiday, celebrating the anniversary of the Eight-Hour Day........

And I promised a giveaway in celebration of my Christmas Mug Rug making the

final of the Modern Mini Challenge...

I didn't win but was more than happy and honoured to have even been chosen!

Here is what I have on offer....

mostly purchased from Kylie @ Patchwork House, my LQS.

This is to thank all my followers for voting for my mini...

Four fat eighths of quality fabric

And to win you will need to be a follower of my blog (and I'll be checking!)

AND answer this 'labour related' question....

Which labour saving device is your favourite in the sewing room?

Mine, apart from my sewing machine of course, is definitely my un-picker!

Having a sweet un-picker like this makes the job a little less stressful!

I really wanted to include one in this giveaway

but they were out of stock!

So you get this cute little needle case instead!

They can be purchased online here

http://www.thepickledishpatch.com/store/

The giveaway will remain open until next Saturday, 17th March

when Mr Random Generator will pick a winner!

(Please make sure I have some way of contacting you)
