I finally bought...

 ...Some fabric!

Disappointingly the textiles display at the Victoria and Albert Museum is in 'mothballs'-

Its been packed away, to be moved to a new museum.

So I had to console myself with buying fabric...

and some postcards of fabric...

and a sweet pair of button earrings!

The fabric is a reproduction print from a quilt made sometime around the

1820's.

It is called 'Seed Head'!

And yes...it was made by Liberty!

Just as well I made this purchase...

I couldn't afford anything from the Liberty store, even when it was on sale!

I did, however, snap up a bargain at Anthropologie!

The cutest tea towel for half price!

Too nice for dishes!

I do love owls!

I would have loved to have bought some of their ceramics but I didn't like my chances of getting a plate or cup home in one piece!

Maybe one day....

(We are finally in Spain!  Another post coming soon!)

Happy days!

Alexander McQueen...

is on show at Harvey Nichols in London!

Didn't dare suggest we go in, so just snapped a couple of photos of the display

in the window to share!

An incredible embroidered skirt!

I love the colours in this!

And this one is probably quilted!

Not sure about the pants, but what about the ruffles on this one!

Maybe I might sneak back tomorrow!

Happy days!

Today we went to Harrods!

You may well know how much my boy Dan and the rest of the family love our food!

So what better way to spend some time in London by wandering the Food Hall

of Harrods.....

So we perused the fish...

which is Dan's speciality!

The fruit and vegies looked inviting!

I loved the girl behind the counter with her cute little hat!

And such pretty flowers!

And the fabulous store decor!

The Egyptian Room,  I believe!

And a shot of the famous store at night, from the taxi cab!

-I hope you enjoyed your tour of Harrods.

Happy days!

All Saints- Spitalfields

We found this amazing shop in London today!

I would describe it as a virtual museum of sewing machines!

Yes- these are all vintage sewing machines!

Lining each side of the stairwell...

And all the way to the ceiling!

Regular household machines...

And more industrial models!

And fabulous wooden bobbins!

And I'm not even sure what these were?

With wonderful handbags being displayed!

So on a wet London day, can you tell what was my highlight?

Happy days!

La Petite Maison

I'm in London,

And this is my amazing son Daniel!

Tonight we dined at the restaurant he has been working at for the last ten

months!

This is one of the magnificent wines we had!

And this was the wonderful food we had!

I have never felt SO welcomed in a restaurant and fed such amazing food!

Can you tell from this photo that Steven Spielberg and Gweneth Paltrow SAT

at this table?

Can you tell we had a fabulous time!

This is just me pretending that I travelled in that car!

I can pretend, can't I?

Happy days!

Something to Leave You With!

Very soon I will heading off on a little trip....

(Well, not so little!)

And I have been "flat out like a lizard lying in the sun"....

(An Australian expression!)

Getting on top of all my school reports, assessments and corrections!

But I did manage, in the last couple of days, to squeeze in a bit of sewing to
relieve the tension!

Sorry about the colour, it was particularly overcast morning when I took this!

I cut into my stash of "From Little Things" by Sarah Fielke, which I won at Red Pepper Quilts a while back!

I decided on a pattern from the "Stitch" magazine my friend Colette sent me from the States!

And I am SO enjoying improvised piecing to a pattern!

That's what you call an oxymoron, isn't it?

It's a wonky half square log cabin!

Ah! That's better!
It won't be finished before I head off, but that's okay!

It gives me something to come back to besides all that machine quilting!

I also managed to bind my house quilt...

So that's another one moved to the "Finished" list!

There'll just be enough time for one last post before I leave...

Happy days!

My weekend (part 2)

Finished here!

I managed to achieve all I set out to achieve..

And maybe even a bit more!

The last block for my Modern Sampler is DONE!!

And I am pleased with the result..

I was more than happy to use another piece of my favourite Eiffel Tower fabric!

And now to my design bed!

I'd love your opinions on the blocks as a total-

Should the mosaic block ( bottom right )....

Stay

OR

Go!

That block was where I started this journey over six months ago!

Does it work or should it be replaced?

What about the other blocks- anything screaming out at you?

Also, I'd love to hear if you have any ideas about putting this together?

Sashing?

I'm a bit afraid it might languish in the 'too-hard' basket if I don't get some inspiration!

Happy Sewing!

The Weekend..

Starts here!

This is what I'm intending to work on this weekend...

1. My last Modern Sampler Block....

From here!

(Picked up at the New Year's Sales for $2.00!)

2. And my last Embroider-Bee block...

From this little drawing...

(I don't really draw on blue paper- it is very overcast this morning!)

Can you tell what it is?

3. And I'm hoping to get this bound...

And this is finished too!

Pop back at the end of the weekend to see what I've managed to achieve!

Happy Sewing!
