Well, I think my Modern Amish is finished...
I may still add some black borders?
I had intended to make a 24" Feathered Star
for the centre.
for the centre.
I had some of the paper pieced pattern,
and a photo from one I had made previously,
but no instructions!
but no instructions!
Luckily I had templates for a 15" block-
thanks to Meredithe who blogs over at
Pomegranate and Chintz!
The block came together relatively painlessly...
I did though make half square triangles of my own,
cutting them down to size,
rather than using the teeny tiny template provided...
(No, not a bear paw block at all!)
with just a few missing points!
I did set it on-point before adding corner triangles
and a red border,
bringing it up to size.
I think I might put this one aside for a while-
All the black trimmings are very messy!
Happy sewing!

How gorgeous! I have always loved the bold simplicity of the amish quilts. I can't wait to see how you quilt it!
WOW You have a great start to 2015--the feathered star is beautiful. I have several projects in the works but no progress to report
Gorgeous quilt Susan! Your center star really makes the quilt shine!
It sure is stunning! Will you quilt it yourself?

I can appreciate all the hard work and hours you put into this quilt. It's lovely.
A bit more black in a border and then a red binding perhaps?
This is striking! Your feather center is perfect, and you made a good job of it. It's amazing to me that all our diverse blocks look so good together. I'm happy mine "belongs."
Its Stunning Susan, I think maybe next year I might try some more complicated piecing Clare x
This is beautiful. I have made a lot of Amish quilts back in the day, but I have forgotten how beautifully that black makes the other colors shine. Another successful quilt top of yours!
