Wensleydale

is a Jen Kingwell pattern in her "Quilt Recipes" book

I borrowed my copy from the library because I had

looked at a sample copy at a nearby quilt shop.

This quilt was the only one I really liked.

So when my turn to borrow it came up,

and I didn't have any other quilts to piece....

perfect timing.

In the book it is pieced with templates!

I fell out of love with these after I had finished a twelve month subscription

to make another Jen Kingwell quilt, Delilah!

I decided to make a Foundation Paper Piecing pattern.

Turns out I could have bought them pre-printed for a reasonable price!😬

I then got busy choosing a colour palette.

I have made two blocks already...

I think it takes longer to choose fabric combinations

than it does to sew a block!

And I also have a name for it.....

but more on that soon!

Happy sewing...

Starlit Sky

What comes first- the pattern or the fabric?

As I tend to accumulate fabric at a greater rate than I can sew it,

it's usually fabric.

I bought the Magneta Star pattern, by Carol at Freeboard Quilting Designs,

with the intentions of using my stash.

But as is often the way, I could not make it work.

So when I recently attended the Sew-In day with Racheldaisy as guest speaker,

I couldn't resist a little fabric purchase, with the express intention to use it for this pattern!

As I played around with possible combinations, I found I need to supplement it with some of my own fabric.

But luckily I have plenty of Aurifil threads to co-ordinate!

I had already purchased three metres of solid on sale from Darn Cheap so that is what I based my purchase on!

Here are some progress shots....

lots of half square triangles.

And fabric that reads as a solid!

the pressing instructions are fabulous with all seams nesting beautifully!

I've been playing around with the sashing too!

I hope to have this together very soon.

Happy sewing!

Doily Bags

I gave you a sneak peek of this project recently...

But forgot to show you the finished product!

As well as making a doily quilt,

I had some larger, more special ones that needed

showcasing more!

This one has been claimed by my sister...

So a second one was planned...

and made!

The back,

and the inside with a pocket which is hard to see!

I want to make some more with these...

so I am considering other sayings:

"Happiness is...Op Shopping"

"Get Your Sparkle On"

"Treat Yourself"

"Make a Difference"

"Reward Yourself"

Do you prefer any of these over others?

Or do you have any suggestions for me?

Thanks!

Happy sewing,

Do you have a quilting style?

 I definitely think Rachaeldaisy does.....

I was privileged to attend a truck show by Rachael

today...

Here is a sample of just some of the quilts she shared...

Apart from this one, an earlier one....

I think Rachael's style is definitely hers....

distinctive and recognisable for its colour and vibrancy!

Maybe that's because she is a designer in the true

sense of the word.

Me, I'm an imitator, making others designs my own with

my fabric choices.

But I'm good with that!

You know what they say about imitation being the

highest form of flattery.

I get joy from the making and the giving of quilts, not

designing them.

I'd really like to have a go at these Pine Burr blocks.

My friend Deb bought the pattern and I had a quick

look.

And Nifty Quilts has a tutorial of the round version here

I certainly won't be making one like this...

Although Rachael jokingly said there were only none

blocks to make....

not counting all the others smaller blocks needed to

make it!

Do you think you have a quilting style, recognisable as

yours?

I can think of another few bloggers that do!

Happy days!
