Another Catch-Up!

 I thought you'd like to see what has been keeping me 

busy in the craft room these last few days.

 I finished my socks, started on a recent road trip.

I've begun hand quilting my "La Finestre" quilt, 

after machine quilting in the sashings.

And I've made two more "Small World" blocks,

to give a total of four.

I need another nine, I think.

And some partial blocks to fill in the gaps!

I'm contemplating a new name still, 

and wondering why the designer 

called it "Small World"?

Any thoughts?

In The Sticks!

 I have a finish to share....

Just my 5th full-sized quilt for 2023.

I based this quilt on a few I had seen on Pinterest. 

It seems it was popular back in 2009 on 

"Film In the Fridge" blog

I initially quilted in the centre of the white strips in a 

grid design,

and decided it wasn't enough.

So then I went back and did a random square spiral!

Still not finished....

I used perle thread in black to hand quilt each block!

I think it adds something extra to the final look.

So "In the Sticks" is done!

Yes, I think our friends believe we live "in the sticks" as 

described by Merriam-Webster:

"an area in the country that is far away from towns and cities"

so that is what I've named it.

The back is all made from stash!

Perhaps they think we live in this house?

A Hatrick...

 of finishes!

First my jumper....

called "Twisted"

Although after wearing it a couple of times I think the 

sleeves need to be longer.

So I'll be doing that soon!

Second, my Sugar Gum Blossoms wall quilt...

Perhaps it needed a post of its own but with the few 

comments I get, I don't see much point.

After all, this is a record of my work for future 

generations.

I chose to bind it with a facing....

following the tutorial shown on the APQS website on YouTube

There are hanging triangles on the two top corners.

Hopefully it will be hanging on the wall soon.

Marking Time!

My latest quilt is finished...

the Wensleydale pattern by Jen Kingwell.

I decided once I'd basted it that I'd hand quilt it.

I used Aurifil 28 in a bright red for the quilting in a 

simple design,

basically copying what Jen Kingwell had done on her 

original design. 

I also used a piece of bamboo batting that I'd picked up

 on Facebook Marketplace for a bargain.

Originally this quilt I'd called "Carisbrook" after my new 

hometown.

But as I named my last finish "Carisbrook Cabin" I 

decided to change it up a bit.

So "Marking Time" it is....

For two reasons- this quilt marks my time of moving 

from the beach to the country.....

I started piecing it back in August in Brighton and 

finished it here in Carisbrook.

The second reason is that I feel I have been marking 

time - marching on the spot- with my quilting for the 

last few months.

So maybe it's time to get more productive, 

especially as the cooler Winter weather arrives.

There will be at least a couple of months of 'at home' 

activity 

and sewing should take priority!

New Brighton Gardens

 a quilt finish! 

I thoroughly enjoyed making this quilt,

joining Elizabeth @OPQ in her free sew-along!

I started this back in January, not long after we moved 

to our temporary home at the beach.

And it is finished just as our time here winds up!

I've quilted it in Perle 8 thread, appropriately using a 

reel of Superior threads

 that Elizabeth sent me eons ago! 

I guess it was waiting for this quilt all the time!

Then I raided my depleting stash of threads, 

using a DMC in purple and finally some Aurifil hot pink.

I pieced the backing from fabric I had in my stash,

and bound it in an orange print bought specially for this 

quilt.

I was organised enough to make the label before I 

bound the quilt so it is firmly attached to the back!

It is windy here in Brighton today, and rain is on its way.

So just some quick shots outside....

with this one to leave you with!
