I bought a copy of "Love Patchwork and Quilting"
magazine while I was in England, back in July.
That's where the pattern, by Jo Avery, for this
cushion came from.
I first chose the centre fabric then picked out some
co-ordinating colours from my stash.
The fabric is 'flores de coyoacan' by Alexander Henry |
I love making Dresden plates!
This one is 15" across!
I rummaged through my stash for the backing.
And who doesn't love a pompom trim?
I had a real problem finding an insert-
nothing round, nothing big enough!
This cushion from "Kas" (above) was not what is
pretended to be!
No insert, no zipper (even though it looked like it!)
no good!
It looks pretty on my new Buttons rug from Ikea! |
I managed to make do-
At least the cushion is finished!
I'd love to make another one, but not until I find
the perfect insert!
Happy sewing!

I love your cushion Suz - it's so gorgeous with the pompom trim. You might have to make your own insert out of calico.
Love the cushion, the pom pom trim takes it to awesomeness.
pretty darn cute tho!
Very pretty. I love the vibrant colours, and the pompoms of course.
Whoa! What a great cushion! I have a feeling it matches your weather right now? Your pieced Dresden is terrific and that backing fabric is PERFECT!!!! I hope you are able to find the perfect insert. This cushion deserves to be used!
Woo hoo!,
Absolutely beautiful! Great fabric choices. Making your own insert isn't hard. Crazy Mom Quilts has a great tut.
Even though you don't have the right insert the pillow looks amazing! I like the fabric you chose for the center and the Pom Pom trim. I didn't realize you needed a circular insert. I've actually never seen one before. You might have to make one.
So fun and cheery. Love the pompom trim too.
Such a cute pillow - love the pom pom trim!
Love your cushion colour combo..the center fabric really is perfect! Linda
What a super fun and fabulous cushion!! I was just playing pom pom trim today. I wonder if you could make your own insert with white cotton shape filled with stuffing. You can buy bags of it from spotlight.
The cushion is great. Love the fabrics.
I have often found that I have to make my own inserts. More work but sometimes has to happen.
Wow it's stunning Susan! I love the vibrant colours! Thanks for trying out my pattern :)

This looks like a fun project. I love all the different fabrics you used, and the pom pom trim is perfect!
What a darling pillow, Suz! I've seen those rugs at Ikea....spiffing up the sewing area maybe?!
super cute and very fun fringe!
Very cute, and that pompom fringe is the perfect trim. After Rene asked us to make a Dresden I found out how fun they were--I love your pieced one!
Very frustrating when your creative ideas run into obstacles before they are finished. Seems you found a way around it eventually.
For anything other than square, I make my own inserts with hobby fill and calico.
It is hard to get much better than pompoms and Dresden plates!
I love the pieced dresden. I'm glad you liked making it--that is what I'm requesting for my MCM month in March. :)
