Lost your Mojo?

It happens to us all...

We find ourselves with a sewing window, and don't

know what we want to work on?

While I knew I should begin quilting one of the three

flimsies have waiting,

"Stepping out with Alice"

"Shadows of Love"

"Tiger Tales"

I wasn't sure I had the enthusiasm to baste anything

today....

I started thinking about how I might fill the day?

I've made a list of

"Things to do in the sewing room when you are not

sure what you want to do!"

1. Clean your sewing machine

2. Clean your cutting table

3. Change the blades in your rotary cutters

4. Join batting scraps to make a useable piece....

Don't forget to measure and label it!

I did this one first, then another too, for my "Tiger

Tales", so it's ready to go!

5. Make (scrappy) binding

6. Make labels for all those 'quilts in waiting'

7. Make a pieced backing from stash fabric....

which I also did!

It is for a black and white quilt I'll eventually make

with these...

when I find the perfect pattern, of course!

8. Cut scraps into useable shapes, example

Dresden Plates or Hexies...

then sell them online!

I did that too!

What do you do when your sewing mojo disappears?

I'd love to know!

Some progress...

if a little slow!

I love making these Dresden Plate blocks....

and the numbers are growing.

To vary things up, I have made some with just two

different fabrics...

a little less scrappy, but fun nevertheless!

This is how the scrappy ones are looking...

on their patched backgrounds.

I'm looking forward to some more sewing time on

the weekend.

Happy sewing!

A Roadtrip

Mr PnP and I just returned from a little

Easter/Autumn road trip!

Firstly, the Marimekko exhibition in Bendigo...

a beautiful art show in Castlemaine...

The Silo Art Trail has long been on my 'must-do' list!

 What an achievement!

And it's bringing some much-needed tourism back to

country Victoria.

We then spent three glorious days in Glenelg....

walking the Esplanade each morning!

And along the Torrens river too...

Finally, we did some cycling in the Clare Valley...

with some wine tasting in between!

There was one last silo in Coonalpyn, South

Australia....

For more information go here, or here.

I did sew while being a passenger or in the

evenings...

and have six of these appliqued to the background

squares.

And of course, it's important to have a little souvenir

for my own future quilt....

I'd never seen "Frou Frou" fabrics in real life before!

I'm itching to get back in my sewing room,

with plenty of ideas brewing!

Happy days!

Learning from a master!

I was lucky enough to attend a trunk show with

Jenny Doan the other night!

What a delight she is- truly inspiring, generous with

her time and knowledgeable!

I don't own many charm packs and they were all

given to me by friends...

So I decided it was time to make a baby quilt using

the Window Pane Disappearing Nine Patch pattern.

More details can be found here

This range of fabric was called Bunny Tales by

Darlene Zimmerman, long discontinued it seems.

I knew I wanted to make it larger than the 30" it

finished up at this stage;

Pardon the heads, I was in the third row!

So I added a deeper blue 1" border and a 4" spotted one!

I really loved how it turned out!

I think Mr Tiger is pretty pleased too!

I have a few more ideas for the rest of the charm

packs I have in stash....

Happy sewing!

Shadows of Love

I finished piecing together my Delilah quilt today.

Even my Ikea trolley is colour co-ordinated!

Here are month 12 blocks names Black Cockatoo.

I calmed the overall look by using a grey spot

in the 3" filler blocks, rather than 30 different prints.

And why have I named it "Shadows of Love"?

The Tom Jones' song (Jen Kingwell the designer is a

big Tom Jones fan!) is about domestic violence

Using a lyric from it would be

might be more relevant.

I have had a love/hate relationship with this quilt

hence the shadow that hangs over it.

I've already purchased my backing...

The one on the right.

and a few other fun fabrics!

And I've not been doing much sewing or blogging

lately....because of this little fellow!

My beautiful grandson, Eli

I have a good excuse, don't you think?

Happy days!

An Evening with Kaffe!

While I may not be spending so much of my $$$$ on

fabric this year....

hearing inspirational quilters speak and share their

quilts is high on my list!

Cutting Cloth in Fairfield was one of the stops on

Kaffe Fassett's (rhymes with 'safe asset') latest tour.

The shop...

and restaurant venue were adorned with all his

Love that green!

glorious colour!

The quilting was only on the purple solid-minimal but so effective

I'll be honest, I own very little Kaffe fabric....

I'd love to make something like this!

but I love his graphic designs, use of colour and

Fabulous use of a 16-patch and border fabric

simple quilting!

And the battings are so thin, apparently good for

travelling!

Of course, there was the obligatory book signing!

 and photo op!

Thanks Kellie for a very memorable evening!

Happy sewing!

Dresdens!

Sewing has taken a back seat since I went back to work three weeks ago!

Delilah has stalled because we are still waiting for month 12 templates to arrive!

I don't think I showed you all of month 11.

My sister has been collecting fabric for a quilt....

and we settled on a Dresden plate block.

So, to ensure we had the right size, I practised with

this first...

I've made three of these into a table runner...

which is waiting patiently to be quilted!

In the meantime, I cut most of the blues and

greens...

into 5.5" blades, with a speciality ruler...

and made the first of 36 Dresdens!

Of course, it still needs a centre...

Have you ever made a Dresden plate quilt?

Happy sewing!
