Meadowland

I've been busy making quilt tops!

I'd seen the Meadowland popping up all over my

Instagram feed and decided I needed to

dive in!

I showed some of those initial blocks back here

The blocks are 16" finished.

Today, I basted it....

Finished size 48" by 64"

I've also made a scaled down version...

with blocks finishing at 12".

For this version, I went a little more scrappy for the

corner blocks....

and added some thin sashing and cornerstones.

I think both designs have their merits,

Finished size 53" square
although this second one is my favourite!

Have you ever made a different version of a pattern?

I'd love to know.

Happy sewing!

I didn't realize the block was so big for the Meadowland quilt. Like you, have been seeing a lot of them on IG. Yes I make different versions of the same pattern all the time. I'm about to start 3 versions of the same simple design right now . . . hopefully as gifts later on. And I love exploring the variations on my own patterns. It's amazing how different things can look. I like your second Meadowland the best too . . . I think because of the colors. Plus more blocks gives more variety. Cheers.

Love all your versions, but especially the 16" block. Gorgeous fabrics.

I think adding the narrow sashing is a good way to avoid lots of seams meeting at any given spot. I made a scrappy + and x quilt, and though it might have looked good with just the blocks, the sashing sure did make the sewing easier.

Lovely. I like both and definitely can't choose one. I like the way you can have a fun block in the centre but it doesn't take over in the design.

I should make different version of a pattern or two, but I'm always intrigued by what's new and interesting, especially in other people's feeds! I think you did a great job making the two quilts differently, with two great looks. Nicely done!

Really looking good, Susan! I think it's remarkable how you just decide to join in on an along, then do it, and suddenly it's done! I can't do alongs anymore. To me it's not fun to feel the pressure of needing to keep up. And now that I've stated that I won't do them anymore, one will come along that will entice me anyway. :-) Ha!

It looks great. I just finished up the last of my blocks tonight. You did the math to size down to 12 inches? I've often thought about increasing or decreasing blocks.

Both meadowland quilts look great, my fave is the original sized block.

Both versions are beautiful Susan, but I especially love the second one with the sashing and corner stones!
