Anna Maria Horner has been visiting Australia again!
I was lucky enough to attend both her hand stitching
workshop and trunk show on Wednesday.
I have so many great ideas and photos to share, I
will break it in two separate posts.
First, the hand stitching.
Anna went through her quilting techniques, as seen
in this little video....
She designed the birds in her Cacophony range just
so she could do little cross stitches on her quilts
And according to Anna, hot pink thread is a neutral!
And this one comes complete with pom-poms and
tassels!
I couldn't wait to practise my hand quilting stitch.
Since my accident last November, my hand quilting
has suffered somewhat...
But I am pretty happy with how my sample feathers
are looking, front...
and back!
She generously drew this little folk flower so I could
practise my embroidery stitches...
and I purchased the "A to Z" embroidery templates
too!
It's not hard to tell that she has been hand stitching
since she was five!
Another hint- chose long straight or wavy lines that
avoids the seams,
makes for easier stitching!

I still regret I didn’t take a class on her embroidery! It looks so lovely!
Anna Marie has such a lovely style about all her work. Looks like you had a wonderful time. Hand stitching intrigues me but so far I haven't tried it. I'm impressed by all of you who enjoy it.
Exciting for you, so I guess we can expect lots of hand quilting and extra embellishments on your quilts now.

I can tell that you were in the throes of the best kind of fun when you were with Anna. She "speaks your language," doesn't she? I'm so happy you had the opportunity to do this, and I have no doubt whatsoever that we will be seeing embroidery and hand stitching in your future projects. Hope you can get your hand fixed to make that easier! Hhow wonderful that Anna drew an embroidery design for you! That one will surely be extra-special to stitch and will need to be turned into something to commemorate her visit. Have lots of fun with it. I love the picture of the two of you together. You're looking so good! Maybe that picture can be incorporated into the piece you stitch of her design?
So fun to see this post--and to read your reactions to this. I think you've found your comfort zone, and I already believe you are a star hand-stitcher!
What great advice from Anna. I will treat hot pink thread as a neutral and try to quilt in long lines while avoiding quilting over seams.
I love the embroidery designs. I still have some of my great-grandmother’s transfers. I should use them. Hmmm.
