I saw this picture on IG...
and followed the trail to the Moda Love Quilt,
(more details here!)
The original quilt was just one big block made with a
layer cake.
But I wanted to make an 18" block for the
X-Factor Pillow Swap on Flick'r.
My fabric selections... |
A bit of Tula, a bit of Denyse Schmidt, some Lecien
and Jenni Baker thrown in for good measure.
So I did some of my own calculations, cutting the
squares at 2.5", making HSTs of 2.5" and
adding a 1" border.

I call it "Equinox Star" as I finished it around the time
of the Equinox.

The navy and white stripe really stands out on the piping.
Awesome pillow! I love the striped binding/piping, too.
Gorgeous!! Love the stripey binding.
It's beautiful! Like everyone else, I love that striped binding. It's a great addition to the pillow.
Lovely fabrics. Wonder what one you will receive. Are you doing the Holiday round - I am going to try and fit it in.
So beautiful - love red and aqua together and the stripey binding too!
I love this! It's a great design for a scrappy pillow or quilt. I will have to look at the quilt. It's just fabulous! And your color choices terrific!
As others have mentioned, great pillow and wonderful binding. Can you tell me more about how you did the piping/binding? I'm curious when you say that you attached the piping like traditional binding. I'd like to understand how that is done. Thanks for sharing.
Love this, especially the stripey binding! But even more so I love your new blog header - really catching :)
I love your fabric combinations! You really have such a good eye for this, and we are all the happy readers who get to learn from you. Your Equinox Star turned out so beautifully, and I love the quilting and the binding. Perfect!
What a great design for a cushion. Your selection of fabrics is beautiful, pretty but modern. I look forward to seeing which pillow get get in the swap.
This is beautiful! I never get tired of this color combination. Of white and red polka dots!
I love the striped piping/binding. I usually add piping to cushions as I think it looks more finished than a plain edge somehow. How does the binding method compare to old-fashioned piping? Any easier?
The stripes of the piping and the red spots work perfectly with the other fabrics to really make this look fresh. Nice work.
Don't you just love IG for inspiration?! This pillow turned out great. Hope you got a great one in return. Swaps scare me.
Pretty pillow. Love the stripes for the binding. My favorite go-to fabric for binding is stripes.
This is gorgeous - great finish :)
