Farming...

I have decided this section of "Melbourne Town",

is in the farming region!

This panel measures 16.5" square!

I think if I had started at this panel,

I would have stopped right here....

It would make an awesome mini!

Time to tackle this section....

with plenty of hand stitching of hexagons and 

dresdens to contemplate!

I first received an email from the editor early in 

November 2013!

Yes, that was eleven months ago!

I redesigned a block from an 

old quilt blocks book-

The block was called "Dusty Miller".

Pardon the scribblings....

I made some subtle changes

and used modern day 

foundation piecing techniques!

Oh, that's blurry!

 I echo quilted around the design, 

And I forgot to take any photos of the finished item

before I sent it off in March!

Nearly perfect points!

So here are some photos from the magazine!

If you decide to make my block or bag,

I'd love to see it!

I think a series of these blocks would make a great 

quilt too....

And as extra encouragement, I am happy to send a 

copy of the magazine to one of my faithful followers!

Bloggers Quilt Festival!

Welcome to my little corner of blogland,

 and the Blogger's Quilt Festival!

Thank you Amy for hosting this wonderful event...

Some of my regular followers may have already seen 

my "Castle Tiles" quilt here...

Today I reveal it quilted and bound!

I loved making this quilt!

I had taken a long time to decide what pattern would 

best suit this amazing "Echo" fabric!

So when I saw this pattern, by Bec @ Chasing 

Cottons, 

in an Australian quilting magazine,

I was away!

I made some slight alterations to the original, putting 

in corner stones and extra borders...

I kept the quilting to a minimum, because it involved 

lots of twisting and turning....

You can see it a little better here...

I guess you could call it "echo" quilting!

I love the spotted binding and 

the geometric type backing....

I have someone in mind who this will be gifted to,

even if it is a perfect fit with my new lounge suite!

I have been sewing...

....just not much!

My sister was quite taken by this bag and asked if I'd 

make her one!

The major problem is that it is from the Marie Claire 

Idees magazine....

All in French!

So before I cut into her pretty stack of fabric....

I decided to do a practice one...

I think it will all work out in the end!

(I do like a challenge!)

But, does anyone read French?

My medallion quilt is slowly coming together....

with lots of pinning....

I hope to have more of this to show you soon!

Words or Pictures

When you are following a pattern, do you use the pictures...

Or the written instructions?

I am mainly a visual learner, so why I persisted in focusing so much on the 

written word this time, I am at a loss to say!

Anyway.....

The written instructions were WRONG!

UGH!

Anyway, I would love to honestly know, from you, my friends, whether these 

incorrectly pieced blocks, which should be a wonky half log cabin, look a confused mess...

Or are they redeemable and worth persisting with??

Looking for TIME!

(Unfortunately no sewing to share again....)

But I have 'acquired' some pretty new things...

I have friend I made from a Flick'r swap...

She emailed recently, desperate to get a copy of a particular Australian 

patchwork magazine...

And of course I was happy to oblige.

And in return Colette sent these to me....

"Stitch" magazine is amazing!

Not just quilts, patchwork and applique...

But clothes too! 

And "Quiltmaker" magazine is also a new one to me!

I love this paper pieced pooch!

And my week finished off nicely with this...

A trip to "Spotlight" for batting 

Was not complete with some the new Denyse Schmidt line "Country Fair"

I was drawn to the blue and chartreuse colour palette,

A little out of the ordinary for me this time!

But I love this and already have a quilt planned!

Now to just find the TIME!

Someone Pinch Me!!!

Let me set the scene....

I have been home from work for two hours now.....

It's the weekend here in Australia, so I decided to begin a new block I've wanted to make for ages

(More of that next time!)

The pattern is on my computer so I do a little sewing and a little blog surfing and emailing in between

Firstly I start reading blogs from my favourites list and find I have won a lovely stash of fabric....

Another one!!!

(I have only  just got over winning on Red Pepper Quilts yesterday...odds of 1 in 500+!!!)

This time the odds were 1 in 200+!!!

So I send off my email as instructed and went back to sewing....

While waiting for the iron to warm went back to my email to find a new mail 

labelled YOU WON!

Initially I thought it was just a reply to my first win....

NO!

I've won a copy of this lovely Bespoke magazine! over here!!!

I am still shaking my head!

Did all my stars align or WHAT!!!

Not sure what the odds are for winning 3 giveaways in 28 hours and the last two 

within an hour of another!!!!

I just had to share this amazing news with my friends!!!!
