A few months ago I was lucky enough to win a half
day workshop at Amitie....
with the aim to make this quilt by Michelle
Mackillop.

So for the last few months I have continued piecing
the background...
the background...
lots of nine patch blocks...
These were then cut into four,
to make a disappearing nine patch...
then sewn back together,
until I had this!
I finally had the opportunity to go back for
another session...
preparing my circles and leaves (feathers?) in the
meantime.
I foundation paper pieced these two sections....
but I am not happy with them.
So I have decided to hand piece them,
the perfect project for my upcoming Tassie Trek!

Love, Love, Love, you make me want to do handwork and appliqué. Glad to see the Cotton+ Steel fabrics! And the D9P, I love looking at all the fabrics you are using, it's like reading hieroglyph, seeing if I have any of it. I saw some, not a lot though.
Wow....that looks amazing. I LOVE the low volume background. That is going to be an amazing finish.

Wow - all that LV. How big is the background? Hand piecing is always the perfect thing to take on a trip. of course whether you get any done is another story. Have a great time, looking forward to seeing more of this quilt.
This looks like a fun one! I'm not sure if I could have made myself complete the background first though. I'd be itching to get to the colorful piecing. Have fun!

You've made a lot of progress already. Your paper piecing looks perfect but I guess EPP will give an even neater finish and be a great holiday project. Enjoy!
The quilting is Australia is so beautiful and interesting and really pulls all of us in to the process. Looks like you are making good progress on that quilt, and will look forward to the next step. I feel like you do often: not happy with one method of making, I'll often revert to a different one that I know will give me better results. Have fun on the Tassie Trip!
Each time I see one of those, I almost wish I had a machine. I love that neutral background. That is going to be a stunning finish. Looking forward to it!

That is such a stunning and effective background. It will work so well with the brighter colours to come.
It will look lovely. The background alone is fab.
I would foundation piece the middle in rings, like one would sew a pickle dish pattern. I might then hand sew them together for a neat finish. Just an idea.
