February Friends!

February's + and x blocks happily and safely landed 

in my post box from Carla this week!

And aren't they pretty?

I love this fresh and juicy colour palette....

Here are the blocks I sent Carla....

The two on the right are slightly different to the others....

Can you see how I made some subtle changes 

to the fabric placement this time?

I do like the effect!

Here they are playing so happily 

with their Australian cousins!

It might be time to start thinking about a layout....

Randomly Thursday

A still morning in Melbourne brings out the hot air 

balloons…

Apparently this one landed some ten minutes after I 

left for work this morning!

My sister couldn't join me for my birthday,

but she sent me a photo of my partly prepared 

'birthday cake'---

An apple cake in the making!

This is as far as she got-

Helen has such a great sense of humour!

 I also received wonderful cards,

Love those workers pumping up the sultanas to make them into grapes!

and a very special needle case from Mary!

I made a little something (a mug rug or trivet?)

 this week…

How cute is Mr Frog in his pool of blue?

Posy Baby!

I have finished my "Posy Baby" quilt!

(There's still some hand quilting to be added when I took this photo)

I did some simple "in the ditch" 

machine quilting first,

then finished by hand quilting 

with Aurifil wool thread!

How did I miss that stray thread?

The pattern came from Sherri @

 "A Quilting Life" blog,

as part 

of her Simply Small Projects!

The finished size is about 31" X 36"

It's great to have my first finish for 2014!

WIPs Wednesday!

It's been some time since I wrote a 

WIPs Wednesday post!

But I have a little to show-

hand sewing my hexies...

I'm working through the purple/blue/green colours  

of the rainbow at the moment!

And the baby quilt is progressing...

Mini charms of "Posy" on a light sage green background

Bordered with a dragonfly print 

and a 'tile' print border

I found the perfect backing...

"Bella" by Lotta Jansdotter, 

for the bargain price of $7.50 a metre 

at Darn Cheap Fabrics!

With some gingham binding being prepared!

I am aiming for a weekend finish for this.

Finally a sneak peak of the 

+ and x blocks for Carla!

Oh dear, they are in a mess, aren't they?

There is a new one or two in there somewhere!

Hello February!

February in Australia is all about "back-to-school".....

cupcakes for lunch, 

an apple for the teacher, 

(Well, maybe not!)

new glasses and cycling to school!

And a map for the backing....

Sorry for leaving off my friends from the west coast of the US!

I have now completed three of my twelve

Polaroid calendar series....

Summer in Australia- 

we have plenty of that to come!
