Do the Hucklebuck!

I have been playing with gingham!

Elizabeth over @ Occasional Piece-Quilt

along with Cindy @ Live a Colorful Life and

Krista @ Krista Stitched

are having a Project Gingham Party!

My gingham 'guests' mingling at the party!
And I dug around in my stash to supplement the

wonderful fabrics Elizabeth sent me!

And found the perfect pattern called "Jitterbug"...

Now I know I'm old, but the jitterbug was well before

my time!

But this checked fabric reminded me of

 Chubby Checker and the 60's...

So I call my project "Hucklebuck!"

(BTW I already have a quilt named "Twist & Shout")

......."Do the Hucklebuck......"

Each individual HST unit in these blocks finishes at

1.5"....

And each of the five blocks is 9"...

It is now a table runner....

Final measurements- 12.5" X 53"

I quilted with a variegated Aurifil (28 weight) and

used 50 weight in the bobbin, as recommended on

their website.....

Can you spot the piecing mistake? Ugh....

I only realised when it was too late!

Never mind, I love it anyway!

Happy 4th July to my 'Stateside' readers!

Sea Glass....

While I was making this wall quilt for my sister

Helen.....

I thought how the little pieces of fabric reminded me

of sea glass......

Zakka inspired....

against the background of sandy coloured fabric......

and its wavy quilting.....

I left my Hera marker at home.....a long fingernail did the trick!

And as it was made down by the beach the name

seems perfect!

It's now living happily on Helen's wall....

Final dimensions- approx. 20 inches by 60 inches

A second little project was also completed....

a couple of pretty placemats...

complete with red ric rac and binding...

Overall a successful weekend of sewing....

What have you been working on?

Happy days!

Reading Time . . .

I have been a follower of Michele @ CityHouse Studio

since I found her perfect layout for my FW quilt!

(-in case you haven't seen)

So when she was looking for pattern testers I jumped

at the chance!

And this is what I finished up before I went to

Sydney......

A fabulous book bag....

The letters were paper pieced and came together

really well!

And on the other side there's a cook book, a bike

book and even a maths book in on my bag!

iPhoto would not let me turn this photo around, no matter what I did!

And the lining is bright and cheery too!

This pattern is now available @ CityHouse Studio

etsy store!

Thank you Michele for giving me the opportunity to

try out your great pattern!

Happy sewing!

A 'Watery' Walk...

Our walk today starts at Bronte....

And luckily that cloud is not coming our way....

Ah, there's some blue sky....

A little rest along the way...

And that would be Bondi, around that corner...

Even a brave surfer or two...

One last look south....

And after short bus trip and we are at

Watson's Bay......

Famous for Doyle's fish and chips.....

And one last ferry ride back across the harbour...

Towards Sydney Town....

Happy days....

A Sydney Walk.....

Would you like to take a walk with me....

 It's a beautiful morning for a walk...

that would be the War Memorial...

And Captain Cook, looking pretty proud of this place

he 'discovered'!

and into Hyde Park.....

St Mary's Cathedral...

a weird looking sculpture...

What's that I glimpse.....

Ah, there they are.....

 The famous 'coathanger' and 'sails'....

Let's have a rest at Mrs Macquarie's Chair...

Maybe we should have taken the bike?

 Phew, you deserve some breakfast!

ENJOY!
