this is one of my calendar minis I made from some
polaroid blocks back in 2014.
My passion, of course is patchwork so that was
where I started.
where I started.
See that green and red heart up there? |
While doing a clean up at the time,
I came across an old patchwork book (above) and
the inside cover caught my eye!
the inside cover caught my eye!
So I sketched, planned and raided my stash of
purple fabrics!
I have included all the fabrics and quilt
blocks
I'm passionate about!
Bear's Paw and Dresden Plate,
Tula Pink and spots.
Tula Pink and spots.
I played around with its placement on the hombre
I love how the basic block turned out,
in the shape of a heart,
and tentatively began quilting it.
I purchased some silk thread at
the Quilt and Craft Fair,
hoping things would go to plan!
(In fact, I rarely have a plan.)
I decided it needed some hand quilting...
Isn't everything better with hand quilting?
So now it's finished!
I do feel passionate about it!
Thanks for a great theme, Betty!

Oh that's fantastic - really striking! I love your block and the way it became a heart and I am so going to steal your quilting and ombre background :-)
ReplyDeleteSusan, I just love your favorite blocks married into such a happy piece - how original! And the hand quilting gives it an organic feel which says "I'm real". Clearly you're not afraid of purple and you embraced your passions - great job!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. You have had a wonderful play with this one. I really like the addition of the hand quilting.
ReplyDeleteLove the addition of the hand quilting!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I love all the elements - the blocks, the hombre, the silk thread, the hand quilting...and to have it come together in the shape of a heart is inspired :)
ReplyDeletePurple never looked better. The hand quilting is a wonderful addition too. I love that you found inspiration in an older book and brought new life to the concept. Well done.

ReplyDeleteI can feel the passion. Love that you pulled in blocks that you loved, and combined traditional patchwork into an art quilt. I knew I spied some dresden blades the other day on IG! Beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteWow - you have an awesome purple stash, there is a lot of inspiration in older books, they just require us to imagine the items made in modern fabrics, not the country toned ones they are usually in. What is your next colour going to be?
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely. I love how the quilting adds such a special element to the quilt. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is a really clever interpretation of the theme. It's all so beautiful made with wonderful fabric choices and your hand quilting.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful art quilt! I really like the hand stitching and the ombre piece you used for the background :)
ReplyDeleteWow!~! That is an extraordinary quilt, with so many moving parts that all come together in one terrific whole. I love the Dresdens and the heart-shape and the whole thing backed up with an ombre fabric, the fading really working to highlight and "frame" the piece. Susan--you outdid yourself! So fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan
ReplyDeleteYou have done a fantastic job of your purple quilt. All it takes is a little imagination to create something unique. Well done.
A perfectly purple passion encapsulated! I especially like the hand quilting.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous little quilt!
ReplyDeleteOh Man, I LOVE it. And you have some great purples in your stash!!
ReplyDeletexx, Carol
This one is gorgeous! Your passion certainly shines through.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see how your creative process evolved... after all, who ever has a plan???
ReplyDeleteWow, that's wonderful! I love the Ombre background - a lovely little quilt!
