Modern Amish...

That's the working title for my 2014 MCM Bee quilt!

I now have twelve blocks, with this latest addition....

my Dusty Miller block!

I love making this block and I love the way it comes

together...

There is something very satisfying about making a

block of your own design!

And here it is partying with it's bee friends!

Thank you bee buddies,

they look SO good together!

And this where they are headed....

That big black centre is going to become

a feathered star, I think.

That's my plan, anyway!

Who knows what I will decide over the coming

Summer months?

Happy sewing!

  1. Aren't you just as pleased as punch?! Your Modern Amish quilt will be amazing! It already is, but a center feathered star would make it outstanding! I think your idea of using black as the background and solids was pure genius! I love it!

  2. I love your Dusty Miller block--I love also how you used different colors to give it even more depth. This quilt will be fabulous with all those deep colors to shine together. Can't wait!

  7. Oh Susan, this is GORGEOUS!!!! I love how you are putting a medallion in the center! Did you know I live in a heavily Amish populated area? My sister even used to work for them. There's a big Amish quilt auction every November here. I didn't go this year but I've gone in the past. Your quilt is every bit as beautiful if not more so.

  8. These blocks just all go together so well, so congratulations to all your bee members. A feathered star would look gorgeous, but you could also do an applique - or a smaller block in the middle with borders... an endless choice. It will be interesting to see as the holidays pass what you decide to create. Whatever you choose, it will be delightful!

  9. So striking, Susan! The colors all look intense against the black, and that makes me want to look closely at each block. Your Dusty Miller block is charming with the others. I'm looking forward to seeing your center design. Will it be foundation paper pieced?

  11. Interesting. I thought the blocks looked lovely in the early pictures, but they look ever better and more striking laid out around a big central medallion like that.

  12. I really like how this is coming together. I remember being unsure of using a bit of print but now when I see them all together the little tone-on-tone prints here and there add a great feeling of texture along with all the strong colors. So fun!!
