My sew-jo seemed to have taken a little holiday recently....
Although since Christmas, I've made a skirt,
which is a little crushed because I have worn it
a couple of times already!
And a blouse.....
I love gingham!
We have been experiencing terrible bush fires here
in Australia.
They have not affected me directly, apart from some
dreadfully smoky haze.
I do have friends in the north-east who have evacuated once and are now back on a 'watch and act' alert.
So I decided to join the call for 'cool ties' for the amazing firefighters, many of whom are volunteers!
These are so easy to make, using the free tutorial
found here.
I'd hoped to find my sewjo amongst my Cotton and Steele scraps...
and before I knew it I was pressing, cutting and piecing log cabin blocks!
Happy days!

I'm also finding it hard to get my sewing mojo into gear with all the horrific devestation around us. The small town where our children spent their first years at school has lost houses & orchards which is so sad. Other places we know well have also been burnt, especially the south coast of NSW. Look forward to seeing what those scraps finally become. Take care.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we just need a break even if it doesn't come when we plan it. Good for you to make some cute clothes. I can't even remember the last time I made clothing. Probably when my daughter was little and she's 30 now. Keeping Australia in my thoughts and prayers. Have a great 2020.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I think your missing sewjo is the equivalent of everyone else's normal sewing output! Particularly love those little scrappy log cabins... and to see what they become!
ReplyDeleteYou know, it's only us who puts the pressure on ourselves to DO. :-) Sometimes we need a good slow down, or a change of pace, and I'm glad you've found it. Your new skirt and blouse both look so good, and seem like "you." And it's wonderful that you've made those fire ties. I've only been able to speculate how they're used, but they must be worthwhile. I'm sick about what I've seen on the news, about Australia, and the satellite picture of the country on fire is just plain scary. I do hope you stay safe.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great blouse. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteYour sew-jo needed a holiday after all your finishes last year. Cute blouse - what was the pattern? Glad you are safe from all the fires, so heartbreaking for Australia and those of us watching. Kia Kaha.
ReplyDeleteThose fires are so awful. I surely hope that they will be contained/ended/doused or whatever to bring them to an end. The aftereffects are going to be horrendous. Glad you are safe.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the fabric you used for your skirt? I just love it and would love to make something from it if I can find out what it is. Thank you! P S Also love the blouse, so cute!
ReplyDeleteI don’t think the fabric is still available. I tried searching for it using the information on the selvedge but didn’t find it. I hope you see this reply as you are a no-reply blogger.
DeleteI had to look again at the date of this post, as those fires were so remarkable in their intensity and strength and how far ranging they were. I'm glad you were spared the worrse of the effects; there was so much suffereing. And now (three months later) here we are dealing with COVID-19. Who would have thought that so many disasters could keep coming? (And I know you had a drought before the fires, too).
ReplyDeleteYour skirt is so lovely, and good for you for making ties for your "fireies" (isn't that what you call them?). Love the gingham blouse--it's one of my favorite fabrics, too!
