Well, that may be an exaggeration, but I have
enjoyed watching these 'ugly' fabrics....
come to life with various borders....

And all of a sudden they don't look so ugly after all!
Here are a few I prepared earlier!
And the blocks together yesterday,
before I finished the last six today!
Now to decide whether I need sashing and
cornerstones...

You are right- they look great together! If it was me, I'd bag the borders and call it a quilt!

ReplyDeleteSuper blocks. Such a variety. I wouldn't use sashing, I think they look great as they are in the photo. Just sew up those rows! Looking forward to seeing the finished quilt top....... or even the finished quilt!

ReplyDeletePeople might argue with you if they are really truly ugly fabrics but I agree with Debbie I would not border them. I would put them all together and call it finished
ReplyDeleteMaybe not 'uglies' but they all look good together, I like them just as they are without cornerstones and sashing, stitch it up and have another finish before the end of year :)
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest sewing them together as they are which seems to be the general consensus so far.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see an ugly one in the bunch and a little enhancement never hurts even the prettiest! Am with the others - like them just as they are.

ReplyDeleteWell look what you can do! You activate your fabric intuition and make those yuck prints look just right. I like to see "mushy" quilts like this because wherever you look, you see something really interesting. No sashing needed. Keep working your magic! This is gonna be a great finish.

I agree with the "no sashing" suggestions. I love how you have them placed in the photo. They play well together! Such fun!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's amazing how those borders change the look of those fabrics - although they weren't really ugly :-) I love the vivid look of all the blocks together and go with the others: no sashing! It looks great just the way it is now!

ReplyDeleteThese are really beautiful blocks. Actually one of the fabrics, the paint by number birds, was a very coveted fabric by me, long after the first time it was released, and way before they released it again. So for a major birthday, my parents bought fat quarters of the bird print for me--they were quite expensive--and I haven't decided yet what to do with this precious fabric. Maybe I'll have an idea in 2016. Which is tomorrow for me.
ReplyDeleteSo clever to let the borders lead the fabrics away from their uselessness into a useful place. I'm with all the rest of the readers: sashing would be optional in my view, but I could also see how a fun sashing with cornerstones would bring another interesting element into play.

I wouldn't call all of those prints ugly, but the borders certainly did the trick of unifying a mismatched collection. Stripes and spots do certainly do the trick!
ReplyDeleteI have to say I liked the ugly fabrics before, but love what you've done with them! I prefer a mish mash of fabrics rather than a quilt made from just pretty ones.
