I have a finish to share with you today!
The hardest part of this quilt was naming it.
My main motivation in making this was to create a
dent in my scrap pile!
I started off with some Swedish Blooms
from a Zakka book, which in my recent move, I have
temporarily misplaced!
I soon realised that these blocks, lovely as they were,
required more fabric than just scraps.
So I decided to add some variety to my
Cottage Garden by piecing these tulips...

from Cloud Nine's Amsterdam pattern.
I also blanket stitched some leaf stems
to add another detail...
And finished it so-
I used a combination of straight line machine
quilting
(to anchor the layers)
and hand quilting with Perle Thread...
with a couple more thrown in for good measure!
The binding is a piece of unknown fabric
(probably dress fabric)
I had in my stash...
And the backing is that classic Ikea print- Ludovika.
Final measurements-
60" X 50" (approx)
Can you tell that I love this quilt?
I am hoping to scrape another finish in before the
New Year!

ReplyDeleteWell you love it for good reason! It is magnificent! I love the combination of tulips with the swedish blooms and then those stems and leaves add so much to the space! Just perfect! Yay! For a fab finish!
ReplyDeleteAh, it turned out so pretty, Suz! And I love how resourceful you were - scraps for the top, leftovers for the binding and using up various perle threads too. If you managed to piece batting offcuts I will be way impressed ;) (I hate piecing batting offcuts).

ReplyDeleteYes, I can tell you love this quilt! The colors are so "Susan." I like how you used scraps, and came up with your own block plan and arrangement to make something that's totally you. And I always admire how you add pearl cotton hand stitching to make it "cozier." You're such a great quiltmaker! I'm glad for you to have this 2014 finish too. It's remarkable how you manage to accomplish so much, while working. Hope you're enjoying your new, across-the-hall sewing space. I bet it's nice to settle into. Happy New Year!

ReplyDeleteOhh I'm glad I didn't miss this quilt, It might well be my very favourite of yours! I love the colours and fabrics you've used and the flowers. Isn't it amazing how few scraps a scrap quilt uses.
