Well, "Tartan" is what MrPnP called it,
when he saw my latest quilt top together!
As this is made from Densye Schmidt's
"Shelburne Falls" range of fabric,
that's the name that's stuck!
I chose the pattern from here...
There is just one partial seam in each block....
right there in the centre!
But it came together fairly painlessly!

The solid I chose is Kona "Chinese Red"....
a nice change from white or grey,
and appropriate for a southern hemisphere winter.
Though I'm not sure the Chinese made tartan fabric?
Perhaps someone else has a better name for me?

That is very cunning the way that block is put together. Maybe you could call the red "Highland Red", it does look like tartan or a sort of celtic chain.

ReplyDeleteInteresting pattern and I love the colours you have used. So Herman lives at your place, I have Susie that lives at my place...I think they come from the same extended family. LOL. My SIL gave me Susie and she would have been bought in Melbourne.
ReplyDeleteIts a great name, it really does look like the weave of a tartan. The red is such a great shade and was an inspired choice to go with the Shelbourne Falls.

ReplyDeleteIt's stunning! With the lacquerware red I think the pattern looks less tartan and more like something you might find on a Chinese room divider. So how about Chinese Screen?:-)

ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty quilt, Susan! Gosh you're fast... or else you've been sewing this for a while and just didn't share it. Red is a good choice for something completely different, and smashing! To me it all looks like chain... a necklace or a bunch of ankle bracelets.
