It's been some weeks since I joined in the
Zakka Style Sew Along....
(When you get to be my age, you can afford to be
picky!)
picky!)
And this one nearly didn't happen either!
I read the instructions a number of times....
I really didn't want to mess up the fabric I had
carefully chosen.....
But I am pretty pleased with how it finished up!
But the outside zipper wasn't ever going to
happen....
happen....
The first reason was I didn't have the right sized
zip....
but more importantly I didn't think my machine would
have handled all those layers!
So I used a magnetic closure, which did the job
perfectly!
My organiser is now in commission!
Has anyone else tackled this one?
I'd love to hear how you got on!
Happy sewing!
SUZ
yikes - I'm wanting to give this a shot even tho it looks very scary!! hopefully in the next few days! I bought a 20" zip today - purple! Oh yours looks great btw - yay for snap - that's a good option.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tackled it and nor do I have time to but I love what you have done - it looks great!
ReplyDeleteWell done! That looks completely fabulous AND is useful. Great make :)
ReplyDeleteI think it looks brilliant and nice to know it works without a zip too!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried it but yours looks brill so now I would like to!
ReplyDeleteSuz, it's fabulous, are you going to use it as a wallet? I just won a giveaway of the Zakka book and am looking forward to making some zakka goodies after being inspired by yours.
ReplyDeleteOh this looks so great! Who needs an outside zip anyways?! ;) Love your fabric choices!
ReplyDeleteIt looks perfect, and the fabric is gorgeous too! Is the butterfly fabric from Half Modern Moon? I haven't seen them with different coloured butterflies before!
ReplyDeleteLooks great - it's on my list!
ReplyDeleteHi Suz!
ReplyDeleteL.O.V.E your un-zipped organizer! I'm way behind on all of the projects but hope to get in some sewing time next week so I'll tackle this one first! I have a chunky zipper just the right size I picked up at an Op Shop, so I'll give it a whirl!! Your fabrics are gorgeous too:-)
Cheers from Helen
whatever works, right? i used to do zippers a bit but havent in a while. glad you got your zakka on!
ReplyDeleteI think this might be my favorite of the Zakka style projects!
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea, that snap is perfect for the clutch. It looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a cool idea to have the zipper on the outside and a snap instead of the all round zipper. I looked at the instructions and thought "NEXT". Now seeing your snap version I may just give it a go. Thanks! =D
ReplyDeleteI'm having a giveaway on my blog. Feel free to stop by and enter =D

Looks gorgeous - great fabrics! I had planned to start it today but got doing other things (laundry, dishes, unpacking, baking) so will attempt it later this week.
ReplyDeleteA very nice organiser with or with out a zip.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! And I don't blame you for bypassing the zipper. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job susan! I have tried a different wallet and it just didn't line up right and it was far too small to be of any use. This looks like a good size! Love the fabrics and all the pockets. Who needs the outside zip...it would probably never get zipped anyway...hee hee!
ReplyDeleteGreat job - and clever problem solving. My machine also has trouble with many layers (time for a new machine methinks). I made noodle head's lovely 241 tote and had quite a struggle doing the top-stitching. Slow and steady was the order of the day. Sadly I couldn't get away with magnets for top-stitching. Happy organising!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great organizer! I keep meaning to join the zakka sew-along, but as with most other sew-alongs, by the time I start, it will be loooong over.
ReplyDeletewhew! That was somewhat challenging...just posted mine.
ReplyDeleteWell that was smart! I never even thought of doing a different closure on this. Great job making it yours, and your fabrics are perfect!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job! I love the idea of using the magnetic closure. Mine is almost done with the zipper, but I may try this again with the magnetic one. Love your fabrics!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great solution to use the magnet closure. I would like to give this one a try.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea to use the magnetic snap - I an very zipper challenged too so was going to give this one a miss but you have encouraged me to give it a go!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of using a magnet! Great organizer!
