The Un-Zip Organizer

It's been some weeks since I joined in the

Zakka Style Sew Along....

(When you get to be my age, you can afford to be

picky!)

Autumn in Melbourne- so inspiring!
And this one nearly didn't happen either!

I read the instructions a number of times....

I really didn't want to mess up the fabric I had

carefully chosen.....

The zipper is a little wonky!

But I am pretty pleased with how it finished up!

But the outside zipper wasn't ever going to

happen....

The first reason was I didn't have the right sized

zip....

but more importantly I didn't think my machine would

have handled all those layers!

So I used a magnetic closure, which did the job

perfectly!

My organiser is now in commission!

Has anyone else tackled this one?

I'd love to hear how you got on!

Happy sewing!

SUZ

  6. Suz, it's fabulous, are you going to use it as a wallet? I just won a giveaway of the Zakka book and am looking forward to making some zakka goodies after being inspired by yours.

  8. It looks perfect, and the fabric is gorgeous too! Is the butterfly fabric from Half Modern Moon? I haven't seen them with different coloured butterflies before!

  9. Hi Suz!

L.O.V.E your un-zipped organizer! I'm way behind on all of the projects but hope to get in some sewing time next week so I'll tackle this one first! I have a chunky zipper just the right size I picked up at an Op Shop, so I'll give it a whirl!! Your fabrics are gorgeous too:-)

  13. That's such a cool idea to have the zipper on the outside and a snap instead of the all round zipper. I looked at the instructions and thought "NEXT". Now seeing your snap version I may just give it a go. Thanks! =D

I'm having a giveaway on my blog. Feel free to stop by and enter =D

  17. Great job susan! I have tried a different wallet and it just didn't line up right and it was far too small to be of any use. This looks like a good size! Love the fabrics and all the pockets. Who needs the outside zip...it would probably never get zipped anyway...hee hee!

  18. Great job - and clever problem solving. My machine also has trouble with many layers (time for a new machine methinks). I made noodle head's lovely 241 tote and had quite a struggle doing the top-stitching. Slow and steady was the order of the day. Sadly I couldn't get away with magnets for top-stitching. Happy organising!

  19. What a great organizer! I keep meaning to join the zakka sew-along, but as with most other sew-alongs, by the time I start, it will be loooong over.
