Jenny Doan the other night!
What a delight she is- truly inspiring, generous with
her time and knowledgeable!
I don't own many charm packs and they were all
given to me by friends...
So I decided it was time to make a baby quilt using
the Window Pane Disappearing Nine Patch pattern.

This range of fabric was called Bunny Tales by
Darlene Zimmerman, long discontinued it seems.
I knew I wanted to make it larger than the 30" it
finished up at this stage;

So I added a deeper blue 1" border and a 4" spotted one!
I really loved how it turned out!
I think Mr Tiger is pretty pleased too!
I have a few more ideas for the rest of the charm
packs I have in stash....

Well lucky you, I only live ten hours from Missouri Star Quilt Co. and met Jenny briefly at a quilt show but visited her stores and felt dizzy from overstimulation. I had to check out the tutorial because I was so impressed with how your sashing lined up to see if there was a special trick to doing it because mine never line up. I love your quilt with the DZ fabrics; it's such a great pattern to use the 30's fabrics.
ReplyDeleteCharm packs are great for those times when you want quick and easy without too having to think to much. So many great ideas for their use. Your small quilt is adorable!

ReplyDeleteI think we had the same lecture, and I loved every minute of it! I kept taking pictures of how the disappearing blocks worked. I also loved all her stories. Your quilt turned out really cute--way to go!!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, I thought of you while I was retreating this weekend at Missouri Star. Others kept commenting that they were hoping Jenny would stop by and I felt so smart telling them, "Oh, she's in Australia!". You have to come visit if you make it to USA---I only live a little over an hour from all that shopping! Your quilt is cute!

ReplyDeleteI'm happy for you to have a chance to meet Jenny. It seems that designers and teachers who "make it big," eventually visit Australia, and that confirms their popularity. I enjoy seeing who travels over there. Your charm pack project turned out nicely. Looks like a good baby quilt for gift-giving, as I'm guessing that's what you'll do with it. It's always great to see what you're making, and how self-motivated and productive you are without a quilt guild to participate with. Keep making your lovelies!

ReplyDeleteAs long as Mr Tiger approves, all is well. I would use this idea for my overflowing charm pack collection, but they are all traditional florals – not very babyish.
