I've planted a tree...

Have you noticed the number of 'tree quilts' there are about in cyberspace?

It possibly started with the work of talented quilt artist Kellie W of

And there are some wonderful ones on Flick'r which I have put into a gallery...

And I had forgotten about this quilt in Material Obsession 2

So when I stumbled across it recently, I finally decided to go for it!

I'm just doing one tree to start....

I raided my stash to find my tree fabric

And this recent purchase is going to be the ground...

I used its colours to build up these strips...

including a scrap I had in this fabulous shade of pink....

The next step is to cut out the wedges....

Please pop back soon for the next stage!

I am indeed enjoying making this little quilt!

Happy sewing!

Stars Over Paris II

I have completed another block for my modern sampler....

And this, I must admit, may be the the last one!

I think I am quite 'over' this colour palette, for the moment, at least!

Now, I would love these blocks to sit on my design wall while I thought about

how I will put them together!

But as I don't have one, they will languish in a pile and probably keep me awake

at night thinking about it instead!

Suggestions gratefully accepted!

Happy days!

Modern Sampler Update

You may remember me cutting up scraps for more blocks!

Well, I am pleased to say, progress has been made!

I am pleased to show my latest block completed...

containing lots of one inch (finished size) squares!

And most of the corners meet where they are supposed to!

My Mod Mosaic block is now at least a rectangle....

All the blocks, in fact, are different sizes, but I don't think that's such a bad

thing....

I want to put this quilt top together in a random formation...

It is, after all, meant to be a modern sampler!

Happy sewing!

Easter Greetings!

Firstly, Easter greetings to all!

No sooner have I off-loaded given away some of my rather large stash,

than I find this....

A fabric store near me gets an occasional delivery of the most amazing bolts of

fabric!

And something told me I should go over while I was on holidays!

I am no fabric snob so I don't care how old this stuff is!

A couple of these are Alexander Henry from 2008!

And Lecien, from I don't know when?

And a few other designers/makers that I don't recognise...

But at $7.50 a metre, I couldn't resist!

This would make a great market bag!

And look at these cute puppies!

And these five prints are a quilt in the making!

And the dots on the left are fabulous!

As if I needed more fabric?

Enjoy your Easter!

I have a plan!

Firstly, thank you to everyone who entered my giveaway!

I'm sure the winners will make good use of my scraps!

And now that my holiday is nearly over...

I decided I would spend some time cutting out...

And cutting out...

I now have a plan for a quilt, using all the random blocks I have made recently.

So when I get some sewing time I'll be all ready to go...

Adding to the Mosaic Block...

Making another Scrappy Star.....

in a new colourway...

And making at least one Stashbuster Block I've seen on LMS's blog

Although, I must say, this little pile has hardly depleted my stash!

(Which means there will be another giveaway soon!)

Sometimes it's great to get a jump on tasks, isn't it?

And I love having a plan!

What are you planning?

Happy days!

It's in the Bag!

I decided to use some of the lovely fabric and braid that Mary sent me to make a

bag....

There's nothing like a new bag for a new project....
Embroider-Bee on Flick'r
SO this is what I came up with.

I purchased a little pattern for half price from my LQS and set to work!

This came together so quickly with clear, step-by-step instructions;

I added a couple of inner pockets for supplies...

And there were to be 5 flowers but it didn't need it!

It was pretty enough as it was!

Oh by the way....

And its not too late to enter my giveaway over here!

Comments close on Saturday!

Happy sewing....

A Makeover!

I have a little tabletop ironing board (although I use it on the floor!) which has

taken some battering!

It definitely deserved a makeover....

And my safety pin tin was rather sad too!

I found an old biscuit tin stored away in a cupboard and even though it is a little

large I thought it was too pretty to be hidden away!

With that achieved I turned my attentions to the ironing board...

Some pretty fabric from my large stash...

I took the old cover off, unthreaded the cord and used the top as a pattern.

That old top was nasty, wasn't it?
I cut the new fabric a fair bit larger than the previous cover to allow for the

extra padding I added from my basting scraps...

Cut, hem with a narrow casing for the cord, thread the cord and pull it up tight!

DONE!

Got to be happy with that.

Makeover complete!

( And don't forget to enter my giveaway!)

Happy sewing...

It's my .....

Blog-anniversary!

Yes, it's been one year since I started blogging and I haven't regretted it for one minute!

(I must declare -this wasn't my original 'home'; I did have another blog name for a few months to 'test the waters', as they say!)

I have made some wonderful friends...

And won some fantastic prizes!

So now it's my turn to 'share the love'!

Now I will be first to admit... I have lots of fabric.....nearly thirty years worth!

This is but a small sample!

But most of it is in odd bits and shapes and sizes...

What some quilters might call rubbish scraps!

So I have been cutting....

And cutting....(with my new ruler!)

And cutting...

And this is what I've come up with!

Two stacks of 5 inch squares....

(proviso: they are NOT laser/precision cut squares, my stash is nearly 30 years old, my eyes are MUCH older!)

The photo has 'washed out' the colours in some of the fabrics here.
One in a red/blue palette, one in 'Autumn' tones.

Each stack contains at least 15 different fabrics and weigh nearly 200 grams!

You don't need to jump through hoops to win, or to even be a follower!

( I never dreamed I'd have 60 followers by this stage, anyway!)

Please leave a comment telling me your favourite way to use scraps and which colour

palette you prefer.

Giveaway is open until Saturday, midday (Eastern Australian time) and I'll randomly draw the winners...

I'll post their names soon after!
(Comments are now closed...winner announced soon!)

ENJOY!
