Winter Citrus

is finished!

Seems winter is not!

I took an opportunity to take some photos of my

latest finish....

but there was an icy wind

and I had to hurry.

A vintage sheet for the backing

Hence some blurry photos!

I pieced and quilted in Aurifil #2310, with a diagonal

wavy line...

and took a photo of my settings

so I would know for next time.

I even remembered to quilt my label in this time.

This quilt will be given to my school fair to raffle.

Hopefully someone will snuggle under it next winter!

Happy days!

Weekending....

I had such a wonderful weekend

I wanted to share some of it with you!

Firstly a visit to a market where these carrots,

and beets caught my eye!

Thanks Julie for the recipe...

My husband is going to make a roast vegetable cous cous from them!

We visited an Australian plant nursery....

and stopped to admire the view at Arthur's Seat!

finally ending at Heronswood for a wander around

the heirloom gardens...

and some light refreshments!

I did get a little sewing time,

adding to Leanne's blue striped block.

It's for a round robin I am participating in!

Did you enjoy some sunshine this weekend?

Happy days!

WIPs Wednesday...

Can it really be six months

since I did a Works In Progress Post?

Yes, indeed!

So here is what I am working on...

batting for three quilts,

some of which was for my sister

Helen's pretty sampler!

The rest is for my Melbourne Town, waiting to be hand quilted...

And my Winter Citrus, waiting for some machine quilting!

Appliqueing my hexie flowers to 10" squares,

and fussy cutting, into 2.5" squares,

some precious Heather Ross fabric...

for a secret project!

I hope you are all getting some sewing time this

week!

I'd love to know what you are up to.....

Happy days!

Rainbow Connection

I am proud and happy to share my latest finish

with you!

Formerly known as "Modern Amish",

its new name came to me as I was sewing on the

binding.

As each quilt is unique, so should be its name!

Why "Rainbow Connection" you ask?

Hopefully the rainbow part is obvious!

The 'connection' part relates to the fact

that this is a bee quilt,

with all but the centre and one block made by my

MCM Bee mates in 2014.

These blocks connect us in a very special way!

Siggy blocks included in the backing

So thank you ladies for your stars!

Especially Rene who kindly made me a second one

when her envelope arrived empty!

And Mary who made two because she didn't think

her first one was 'good enough'!

I thoroughly enjoyed hand quilting it too!

Each block is so unique and reminiscent of its maker.

It is bound with a scrappy, spotty binding

a happy contrast to the mainly solids and black!

Happy days!

Five years ago...

since I began blogging here at Patchwork N Play!

To celebrate my blog-iversary I'm having.....

a giveaway!
Chubby Star- circa 2010

What wonderful friends I have made since I moved

here from my previous blog on 8th August, 2010!

According to my research,

five is the number of balance.

There are five senses, five vowels,

five Olympic rings and Chanel #5.

Not sure whether I ever showed you this!

Even one of my sons was born on the 5th of the 5th!

To have a chance to win my giveaway,

of a zippy pouch like this,

(although you get to choose a colour or fabric I may

have in my stash!)

tell me something fun about the number five and

why it might be significant to you!

And as an extra entry, can anyone remember what

my previous blog was called?

Gil guessed correctly...

So I will be sending here something in the mail

If so, I'll send you a little something too.

Please make sure I have some way of contacting

you.

(I will apologise now if I don't get round to replying to each comment, even though I'll enjoy reading them all!)

I will randomly draw a winner in...

 five days, of course!

Happy days,

"Waltzing Matilda"

is the name of a well known Australian bush ballad,

and our unofficial National Anthem.

The song lyrics are slightly different to the ballad

It is also the name of my "Four-in-Art" mini

for this quarter, continuing the literature theme.

My initial fabric 'pull'
This was part of my inspiration....

Both Australian ballads

I've tried to include the important elements-

My 'sophisticated' drawing!

Playing with the layout
a coolibah (gum) tree,

a jumbuck or two (sheep),

and a billy boiling.

The white background is printed with numerous

Australian place names,

some of which are in the Australian bush!

I chose to bind with that wonderful green print

which reminds me of the Australian bush.

and I like the texture gained from the quilting!

Once an idea forms, I start to have fun

with these minis.

Typical- only one more to go!

Please make sure you visit all the other fabric artists
